Although the main campaign storyline had been planned to be more extensive, Battle Royale's overwhelming success has shifted the focus a bit. It remains a rich and cooperative game with ongoing events and updates. Remember, teamwork, strategic planning, and resource management are required in this mode, unlike Battle Royale.

Overview

As a cooperative, player-versus-environment (PvE) mode, Fortnite: Save the World challenges players to save the remains of Earth after a mysterious storm destroys most civilization and unleashes a zombie-like creature called a Husk. Defenses, resources, and mission objectives are part of the gameplay.

Starting Out

In order to play Save the World mode, you must purchase a special pack from the Fortnite store, which is not included with the free-to-play Battle Royale mode.

Initial Setup:

As a commander, you are in control of one hero. Choose wisely based on your style of play (for instance, Soldiers are good for combat, Constructors are good for building, Ninjas are good for mobility, Outlanders are good for scavenging). Support Squads are great for backing up and providing passive assistance to your commander.

Missions:

The main missions take you through different zones or areas (Stonewood, Plankerton, Canny Valley, Twine Peaks). Defend the Atlas/Survivors/Shelter/Retrieve the Data - Common mission types where you must defend an objective against waves of Husks. Side missions offer additional challenges, resources, or upgrades.

Building:

In building forts, defenses, and traps, you'll need to use wood, brick, and metal to make your forts stronger, more durable, and more efficient. Making forts is important in surviving missions, so make sure you use different materials depending on their properties (wood for quick builds, metal for durability).

Combat:

You will learn to use different weapons for their situational advantages based on their situational benefits (shotguns for close quarters, snipers for long range) as you engage Husks with a mixture of weapons, traps, and hero abilities.

Resource Management:

In order to build, repair, and craft, you can collect resources from the environment. Conservation is crucial, so it is advisable to dismantle structures in order to use the materials you have collected.

F.O.R.T. Stats:

As a player, it is up to you to upgrade the stats of your character through research points earned from missions. The stats affect everything from the health of your character to the building speed of those structures.

Research and Development:

Use research points to unlock upgrades for your heroes, weapons, survivors, and more.

Storm Shield Defense:

You'll be able to progress the story and unlock new areas by returning to your home base every few missions to defend against increasingly difficult waves of Husks, which will advance the story along with the game's progression.
